Paying My Belated Respects to Queen Anne Boleyn
Paying My Belated Respects to Queen Anne Boleyn
488 years ago yesterday, Queen Anne Boleyn, the second wife of King Henry VIII, was led from the royal apartments in the Tower of London to the scaffold on Tower Green and beheaded on false charges of adultery, treason, and incest, which led to a fabricated guilty verdict. Though I do not condone her chasing a man who was married, tearing him away from his lawful wife, and giving him the ammo to break the English church away from the Vatican, I also cannot condone the absolutely horrid treatment of her during her downfall. To smear someone's good name beyond recuperation is reprehensible, especially when the person was innocent of the charges pressed against them. I believe with all my heart that Queen Anne was innocent of those charges. May you rest in peace, Queen Anne Boleyn.
