I've been keeping a diary for years. Not only do I record the good memories, but I also release the less pleasant emotions that come with daily life without hurting anyone by journaling in my diary. Sometimes, I know that expressing my feelings to whoever is around me isn't always the best option. So I write an entry to release them.
Keeping a diary has definitely helped my mental and emotional health. It can benefit yours, too. And you're not telling God He isn't enough by doing so. You're using ordinary human means and reason to take care of yourself.
